Like all sports...
Judo is a popular choice of combat sport, practiced by millions of people of all ages and abilities around the world.
Originating in Japan, this exciting martial art has been an Olympic sport since 1964.
Judo is a good all-round discipline. Not only is it a recognised form of self-defence, it is a fun social activity that helps sharpen concentration, maintain fitness and develop physical co-ordination. Learning Judo at Judokwai is an excellent way for adults and children to improve social interaction, increase self-confidence and acquire leadership skills in a safe and friendly environment.
For those who like to compete, Judo provides an opportunity for different levels of competition, from club to national tournaments and, for some, New Zealand representation.
Like all sports, Judo has a strict set of rules which govern safety, behaviour and competition. Emphasis is placed upon self-discipline and respect for the coach, partners and oneself.
Judokwai has training sessions available for all ages and abilities. Refer to the training section to find a suitable session, or speak with one of our coaches or club representatives for further information.
We are fortunate enough to have a wealth of committed and talented coaches. Their different strengths and styles ensure members are well taught, in a safe and friendly environment.
Juniors often benefit from the added knowledge and experience of our senior judoka, who spend time on the mat, assisting the coach and having fun with the kids.
